About Me

Short and Sweet:

My name is Jen and I’m a 30 year old living and working in Western North Carolina. I’ve got two cats that I blog about with infuriating frequency (Nola and Coconut) and a sweet man name Anthony as my housemates. I’m a certified life coach but have no clue what I’m going to do with it, I currently work as a case coordinator at a local non-profit, and love to read, write, cook, travel and exercise.

Long and Salty:

I’m one of those people who still doesn’t know what they’re going to do with their lives. I’m actually pretty okay with that at this point, because it’s a fun adventure, and everything I do leads me to the next exciting segment of my life. I graduated from college in 2001 with a degree in Studio Art, concentration graphic design, a few months before the terror attacks of September 11. After those events I decided to screw finding a full-time job in my field (I was working part-time designing ads for a newspaper at the time) and to travel instead. I moved to Vermont to wait tables at a ski lodge, drove cross country and lived in Montana the summer after I finished school, lived in a tent for a while that same summer, moved to Virginia Beach, moved back to Vermont, and settled in Western North Carolina in the late fall of 2004.

I fell into the hospitality field during my travels and loved it. I spent three years as an event coordinator and front desk manager at a local inn, worked in guest services at the airport, then decided to try life coaching on for size, as it seemed a great way to help people with more than planning their wedding and giving them directions to the nearest restaurant. Although I enjoy life coaching, I’m not 100% sure where it will fit in with my life. I want to help people, but I think it may be through writing or in the health field. I just don’t know!

For now I’m thankful to have a 32-hour-per-week gig that involves helping people peacefully settle disputes and I am so happy and thankful to be where I am.

I’m still working on having the best and healthiest relationship I can with my body and food, and am making great strides in that department. I have been a vegetarian for more than half of my life and often times now eat a vegan diet, though I’m not ready to give up animal by products for good at this time. I exercise regularly and am trying to get more into strength training, as I’ve always preferred cardio.
